It’s hygiene with BikerSkylla, cause when you drive nine hours with your leather wear on in the summertime while it’s over 30°C (86°F) like I did in September you are kind of sitting in your own sweat and the shower at your destination is most appreciated.

Also don’t forget healthcare means self-care first. And I know how hard it can be to maintain something basic like a regular shower schedule when you are in a depressive and minus symptom phase (more psychoeducation about schizophrenic/bipolar disorder will follow soon).

If you want to upgrade your basic routines you can try something like brushing your teeth with your non dominate hand sometimes (of course that’s only effective without an electical toothbrush). By doing that you activate the connections between the cerebral hemispheres and can train your brain like you do with your muscles. Always keep in mind the neuronal plasticity of your brain (it’s something they also recommend to MS patients).

Last week I had the first fitting for Neurofeedback where I learned that they now make a difference between alpha one and two, beta one, two and beta high brain wave activities. I learned that professional athletes sometimes also do Neurofeedback, to faster get to the state where you can access your muscle memory best.

Driving motorcycle is my way to get to a concentrated but relaxed state of mind (alpha one I think) without to much worries or happy thoughts, cause you need to focus. You do something you muscles did a whole lot of times and so hopefully you can also relax a little bit.

  • What helps you to focus but relax?
  • How are your coping strategies to keep your self-care routines running while beeing in a depressive phase?

Feel free to leave some feedback in German or English 🙂

Stay tuned, Stay curious, Stay healthy.

  1. […] Last week I had the first session of ambulant Neurofeedback. In 2018 when I did an inpatient psychotherapy we tried Neurofeedback as an experiment, I really liked it but didn’t quite get what I should do to relax my brain. The beginning of the story, you can find under the blogpost (Mental) Hygiene. […]

  2. What helps: biking and having a warm shower afterwards.
    What inspires: Synonyms for self-care: “self-respect“, “self-comittment“.

What’s a lifebelt: Taking care about myself means, seeing me as a worthful human being. But, believing this in dark hours, is sometimes the hardest point for me. Finally, it‘s THE bottom line which we (as human beings) should never cross. We are worthful (and beloved) beings and whatever happens: life is a present to learn… There‘s something to learn in everything. But it isn‘t always easy to uncover it.

    1. I like Self-commitment a lot cause I struggled with that in the past. To keep the promises I made to myself. But now I know that they are much more important than any commitment to anyone else.
And that you are worth it, is the thing you should never doubt, you especially know I learned that the hard way 😉 But like you said, I too like to use every opportunity to learn and grow 🙂

      1. Let‘s do it. Let‘s learn about the universe and it secrets by deepening the relation to ourselves and uncover who we are and why we are here 🙂
