Why I made Loenie Hg out of Leonie Hogh?
In German there are the mutated vowels ä,ö,ü and when you don’t have the right keyboard or the compiler doesn’t allow these letters you write ae,oe,ue. My father had is own type of humor and sometimes called me “Löni, cause an e and an o is an ö or not?”, he said.
That isn’t quite right cause you first write the vowel you want to change and then an e to symbolize that the letter before is an mutated vowel (umlaut). But he liked to mess with the language sometimes. And Hg is of course just a short form of my last name but also the symbol of mercury in the periodic table and I, myself find that cool (although I never fully understood chemistry apart from electrochemistry).
To the more important Him, I wanted to talk about:
My boyfriend and I visited some old friends of mine while I was in Leipzig and we brought some Lego for the kids (you will soon find out more about the inner Lego child of my boyfriend and me). The seven year old girl gifted me a dried four leaf clover she found in the garden. And just before we left she painted a picture of my boyfriend and me. It’s the most beautiful gift I’ve ever received.
The picture and the clover are now in a frame in my living room. The weekend was full of joy and love and it brought a big smile to me every time I think about the future. Like I said in Them & I when I’m to excited about the future, I sometimes can’t sleep. But the past is also interesting and Facebook reminded me that 13 years today I posted “And what love can do that dares love attempt” (William Shakespeare – funny is I never read Romeo & Juliet), but it still holds some truth, I think.
During the weekend we rode a steam train in the park near my boyfriends house. Ever since I first visited I got excited every time I would hear the horn of the train (as a child I watched a German show called “Railway Romance” with my father). And with my friends and their kids we built a railway out of wood and plastic. Here a video summary of the good times:
After I visited Leipzig, I was at the house of my neighbors son where I looked after the cats while he was on holiday. My neighbor knows my mother longer than I exist (she’s 76 and her son about 45-50) and it was the first time I visited the sons house. He has a lot of art painted by himself and during my stay I found three pirctures I painted as a child hanging there (documentation will follow).
I know about the time I painted them (2005-2008) but didn’t know they had them and so much joy overcame me. So please use your inner child and create something, anything, it will bring joy to this world.
Stay tuned, Stay curious, Stay healthy.
